Hong Kong with kids is easier than you would think. It is compact, spotlessly clean, endlessly snackable, and almost everything is a short, air-conditioned MTR ride away. There are two full-size theme parks, ferries kids love, beaches, hilltop cable cars and dim sum that doubles as entertainment. Here is how to plan a family trip that works for everyone.
The big-hitters
Two attractions anchor most family trips. Find out whether Hong Kong Disneyland is worth it and which Disneyland rides suit younger kids, then weigh up Ocean Park, which mixes a zoo, an aquarium and proper rollercoasters on a clifftop above the sea.
Easy wins beyond the parks
You do not need a theme park to fill a day. The Star Ferry across the harbour is a cheap, short ride kids adore; the Ngong Ping 360 cable car up to the Big Buddha is a real adventure; and the Peak Tram climbs at a thrilling angle to a big view and open space to run around.
Getting around with little ones
The MTR is buggy-friendly at most stations and trains come every couple of minutes, so you are never waiting long. Get each child an Octopus card (there are child fares) for quick taps through the gates, and skim getting around Hong Kong to plan stops that are close together and low on walking.
How long to stay
Four to five days is the sweet spot for a family: a day at each theme park, a couple of slower days for the harbour, the Peak and a beach, and time to nap and snack without forcing the pace.
